12 days to go

by rahul.s » Sat Feb 13, 2010 10:06 am
my gmat date's on the 26th! i took the knewton's diagnostic on 31st jan and scored a 550 (Q: 36, V: 31). i took a gprep 2 days back and score a 620 (Q: 40, V: 35). while reviewing the math section of my gprep attempt, i realized that i had made more than a few silly mistakes, which are workable. i could solve all the math questions. my verbal scores were quite surprising. i usually score the lowest on RC, but i got 12 of 13 problems correct. on the other hand, my accuracy rate on SC was the lowest.

i completed a few MGMAT problems from their question banks today and i'll be taking their CAT tomorrow. though, i need some suggestions for a study plan till my test date. i've heard that one shouldn't be studying for more than a couple of hours during the last 3 days, and shouldn't be taking a CAT on the last 5 days. i don't know how to go about it. i'll need to review the MGMAT word translations guide because i'm weak with those problems.

i want to score a 45 in math and a 40 in verbal. i know i can do it, but i need to prepare well for the next few days. i need your help :)

I agree that you might want to taper down your studying in the last days--make sure you are getting lots of nutrition and sleep, without too much emotional stress. Get plenty of iron, B12, all that jazz.

I also think it's really important to nail down a strategy that works for you and stick with it. Have you found one that feels comfortable? I'm all for consulting many sources, but consider picking one for the home stretch. I have been using the www.winningprep.com regiment the whole way, consulting Kaplan and Manhattan as well. I feel pretty prepared at this point, but am still giving myself another month. Good luck!

rahul.s if do yo decide to take more CAT exams, don't get bogged down with targeting a specific score... just really focus on making sure that you understand the questions they're asking. your score will reflect this. i've heard of many people taking CAT exams towards the end of their prep just aiming for a higher score, and it backfires... you just don't feel like looking at another exam again, no matter how important it is...

I think 5 days out you can still go through material, but don't let it consume you... begin to focus on studying lighter and lighter... be sure to update us on the 26th after your exam!
