a^2-ab<0 ==> a(a-b)<0
if a<0 then a-b>0, a>b. a<0, ==> b<a<0.
if a>0 then a-b<0, a<b , b>0
(1) b<0. Nothing about a. insuff.
(2) a-b<0 ==> a<b. still insuff, as we do not know what numbers represent a and b.
hmmm...
