report: Kaplan versus GMATprep scores

by oldgeezer » Sat Jun 28, 2008 8:50 am
I just wanted to share my recent experience for all those wondering about their Kaplan CAT scores, I hope it helps

I took a GMATprep last week and got a 700. I just took a Kaplan CAT and scored a 640. My math improved from 64 to 81 percentile. My verbal went down a little from 97 to 95 percentile.

Assuming the percentile rankings are comparable, it seems like the final combined score should be >640 for the Kaplan CAT.

This seems to agree with the general feeling that Kaplan CATs underestimate your score. Feeling good about the math progression.

just noticed that based on this table, an 81% percentile in Q translates to a score of 47.

The Kaplan score showed it as a 39. The verbal scores/percentiles agreed, however. Unless things have changed a lot since that table was made, it seems like the Kaplan math score is indeed lower for the same percentile rank.

That percentile table is out of date, but it's still pretty close to being accurate. I'm almost certain no entry in that table is off by more than two percentile points, and most are off by either one percentile point or have remained the same.
