38- If p1 and p2 are the population and r1 and r2 are the number of Representative of District 1 and District 2, respectively, the ratio pf the population to the number of Representative is greater for which of the two district>

(1) p1 > p2

(2) r2 > r2

Note: I know the question is asking for the ratio for p1 / r1 or p2/r2 and is it greater? I have trouble to understand how to solve algebraically statement 1 and 2. My questions is there a way to use picking number and how would you do it for both statement??

72- Is x >y ?

(1) x=y +2

(2) x/2 = y -1

Note: I Understand Statement (1) but my questions is for statement (2) x/2=y-1 can you say it the same if you did
x=2y-2 then you how would you use it if you want to pick number can prove if the statement is sufficient or not? Please explain in detail.

(2) x/2 = y -1
x=2y -2 (yes u r right)
so if you assume y to be -2 x will be -6 i.e x<y as -6<-2
in question like x>y are yes and no type of question if yo can have a value which give yes as well as no for the statement given so that will make particular statement insufficient
now let us asssume y to be 5 ain that case x will turn out to be 8 so yes x>y so statement is insufficient

two ratio are as you have mentioned p1 / r1 and p2/r2 and we need to find which one is gretaer
statemnt 1 ) p1 > p2 so numerator of p1 / r1 is greater than numerator of p2/r2
if we can assume number and based on given condition we can choose p1 as 5 and p2 as 4 as p1 > p2(given)
so now our ratio is 5/r1 and 4/r2 but does this help .No as we need to know denominator i.e r1 and r2 to come to any conclusion
statment 1 is insufficient
statement 2 )r2 > r1 again we can assume r1 to be 5 and r2 to be 6 so we have p1/5 and p2/6 but we neeed to know the value of p1 and p2 to solve this ratio
so statement 2 on its own is insufficient
combining one and 2 we know p1>p2 i.e i.e p1=6 and p2=5
r2
.ri so r2=7 and r1=6
so we have ratio6/6 and 5 /7 so we can conclude p1/r1 is gretarer
