IMO E..

The approach as per me should be to use a word to connect the two phrases.

A -> I think "that" does not have an antecedent...though we will assume that it refers to the earlier phrase.
B -> financial success and financially successful are two different things
C -> like cannot provide examples
D -> passive voice
E -> "as" correctly points to the eg

Hope this helps

why not D.

Passive is not always wrong in GMAT, though it is preferred.

How financial success can demonstrate that X need not be a fiscal disaster.
X= sporting event.
Olympics, a sporting event, can definitely demonstrate.

I am not sure about the correct answer.
