Scientists have found that skin tissue is more resistant to toxic substances than lung tissue and uses sweat glands to protect the immune system from possible invaders.

A. --Same as above--
B. skin tissue is more resistant to toxic substances than is lung tissue and uses
C. skin tissue is resistant to toxic substances, more so than lung tissue, using
D. the resistance of skin tissue to toxic substances is more than that of lung tissue, and it uses
E. the resistance of skin tissue to toxic substances is more than that of lunch tissue, using

Please provide reasoning for your answer as well as why other options are wrong.

IMO B

A is not correct it should have been "than is lung tissue" or "than lung tissue is"
[sweat glands] must be connected directly so eliminate C, E ", using"
"and uses" is correct one

in D, [it uses] it doesn't have clear referent.

B

X is more resistant to Y than is Z and uses( x uses)

C is wrong because of more so contruction.
D because uses and using should define skin tissue.
In A is missing.

My guess is "B", for reasons of concision and because it uses the correct form of "to be" before "lung tissue."

A - Confusing; it says skin tissue is resistant to both toxic substances and lung tissue.
C - Awkward and wordy; also the switch to the active voice ("using") is incorrect.
D - Wordy
E - Wordy, and it uses the active voice at the end of the sentence.

Again, these are just guesses on my part (I'm just starting my SC study plan).

My guess would be C.

in B, "and uses" implies an additional use; however, it seems that "sweat glands to protect the immune system show how it is more resistant.

So using is correct because it is modyifying the phrase beofre it.

I will go with B

A ---> Illogical comparison (resistance of skin tissue Vs. Lung tissue)

C ---> unidiomatic

D ---> 'it' not clear. What does 'it' refer to?

E ---> skin tissue uses sweat glands and not 'resistance'

B properly compares resistance of skin tissue Vs. resistance of lung tissue and the subject for 'uses' is 'skin tissue'

What is the OA?

mikecoolboy...in A...

"skin tissue is more resistant to toxic substances than lung tissue"

you have to use the word "is" b/c if you do not, you are comparing skin tissue resistance to lung tissue in general.
