a tiger escaped his enclosure at san francisco zoo and it caused some to question whether the height of the dry moat that separated the animal from from his victim was adequate.

IMO : E
A and B - IT has no antecedent

C - A Tiger escaped .....and caused some... - Tiger didnot cause some to question rather the whole phenomena caused some to question.
D - escaped ...and causing - NOT ||el
E - shows the effect of the escape, so should be correct

Agree with Suman...Answer should be E. Rest of the options simply convey incorrect meaning.
However I would prefer to have comma before "causing".

i think it's E at first I thought C but the 'and caused' makes it seem like the events were not related - grammatically at least... i just realized my sentence doesn't make sense lol but i understood what I was trying to say

The question that need to be answered here is - did the Tiger do 1 thing (i.e. escaped) or 2 things (escaped and caused)

Clearly, Tiger merely escaped .. what happened next was more of a cause and effect relationship. However if we use "and" then we are indicating that Tiger did two things X and Y. Which is incorrect and hence E is our winner.

b.and it causes(causes is not correct usage)
c. and caused (tiger caused?)
d and causing ( sounds awkward)
e. causing(correct)
