There has been a 30- to 40-fold increase in the incidence of malaria caused by increasing mosquito resistance against pesticides.
(A) increase in the incidence of malaria caused by increasing mosquito resistance against
(B) increase in the incidence of malaria because of increasing resistance of mosquitoes to
(C) increasing malaria incidence because of increasing resistance of mosquitoes to
(D) incidence of malaria increase caused by increasing mosquito resistance against
(E) incidence of malaria increase because of increased mosquito resistance to
Please need a explanation that why A is wrong. where should we use Caused by and where should we use because of

Let me try to explain here

A is incorrect because in A it seems that the increase in the incidence is caused by increasing mosquito resistance (mosquito is used as adjective here, instead of noun).

The actual cause of increase in incidents is increasing resistance of mosquitoes, clearly specified in B.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I agree with pandeyvineet24

I think (A) is wrong beacuse "against" is used incorrectly.

If you wanted to use the formulation "increasing mosquito resistance" you would have to use "to" not "against"... i.e. "increasing mosquito resistance to pesticides."

(D) repeats this error

(C) is wrong because increasing is incorrect.

(E) is a good choice but the formulation "incidence of malaria increase" would require "caused by". And cahnging increasing to increased changes the meaning of the sentence.

(B) is therefore the best.

IMO B

due to = caused by
because of = on account of (Hence B)

B

resistance means against...
thus
resistance to is the right idiom
