(
B) support, collapses within hours of its …rst public claim to
power, but with the usual full attention of a country’s

poor structure,So this is also out

(
C) support and collapsing within hours of its …rst public
claim to power, but it usually gets the full attention of a
country’s leaders, and
Are we talking about a regular everyday phenomenon?

It only happened once and we are talking about that particular Coup.
SO this Alters the meaning
(D) support and collapsing within hours of its …rst public
claim to power, but with the usual full attention of a
country’s leaders, and
D is parallel and is the correct answer

the right answer stated was C

I got the same answer D as C as " It" and i thought it was a pronoun reference error hence went for D

D voted out as explanation states that but has to be followed by a proper sentence

(D)’s
problem is that the comma, followed by “but,” implies that what follows is a complete sentence.

Never heard this before in any material yet

You can PM RON or STUART for more detailed explanation but to my knowledge it has to be D and not C

C is correct

this test coordiate conjuction.

(the coup fail, doing1 and doing2), but clause 1 and clause 2

doing 1 and doing2 show actions not separted from first action-fail.

other choice have no conjuction.
