The word "although" is always used to contrast the first part of the statement with the second part. This question describes two sets of museums: one devoted to local history or ethnic groups and the other devoted to museums that are open on summer weekends. There is no clear contrast implied.

The first three choices (A,B,C) are written with incorrect comparisons. The last choice (E) changes the meaning.

D is the correct answer.
