In 1914 a total of 469,000 cars and trucks were produced in the United States, but in 1929 almost twice the numbers of trucks alone came off the assembly lines.

B seems best
following bold portions are wrong

A. the numbers of trucks alone

B. that number of trucks alone----->correct

C. the number of trucks by themselves---->it seems to indicate that truck came off on itself!!

D. as many trucks themselves--->it seems to indicate that truck came off on itself

E. as many trucks by themselves------>it seems to indicate that truck came off on itself

B. that number of trucks alone - Best choice

C. the number of trucks by themselves - Seems that trucks came off by itself

D. as many trucks themselves -Wrong idiom, it should be as many as. Also, Seems that trucks came off by itself

E. as many trucks by themselves]-Wrong idiom, it should be as many as. Also, Seems that trucks came off by itself
