author can be not sure a sentence she or he has written is grammatical. If she or he wants to check it, author can use grammar book as reference source.
premise 1: Any author who thinks that a sentence is ungrammatical will not write it down in the first place, and thus will have no need to use a grammar book.
premise 2: any author who is sure a sentence she or he has written is grammatical will not feel a need to consult a grammar book.
conclusion:
grammar books are useless as reference sources for authors
hope it helps!
