Most consumers do not get much use out of the sports equipment they purchase. For example, 17 percent of the adults in the United States own jogging shoes, but only 45 percent of the owners jog more than once a year, and only 17 percent jog more than once a week.

Which of the following, if true, casts the most doubt on the claim that most consumers get little use out of the sports equipment they purchase?

(A) Joggers are most susceptible to sports injuries during the first six months in which they jog.
(B) In surveys designed to elicit such information, joggers often exaggerate the frequency with which they jog.
(C) Many consumers purchase jogging shoes for use in activities other than jogging.
(D) Consumers who take up jogging often purchase atheletic shoes that can be used in other sports.
(E) Joggers who jog more than once a week are often active participants in other sports as well.

I'll post OA after some discussion.

I'll pick C

It tells us that example of joggers can not be applied to all sports equipment buyers, becuase

- even if joggers are not using it for jogging, they are using it for other purpose. The question stem talks about usage, not the purpose.
- same reason / data may not be applicable for other sports equipments.

C

Stimulus assumes that jogging is pretty much the only use of these shoes. Because its a weaken question, you want to find something that will destroy this assumption. I immediately thought, these shoes can be used for other sports. And this is reflected in answer choice C.
