Please evaluate my profile

Hi,
I am from India. I would like to state the good and the bad
GOOD :

750 GMAT
94% at high school
88% at elementary school

Non-profit work:
1.Director of the Joy of Sharing foundation
2.Associated with The CSR wing of my company
3.Teach dance as a hobby

-Work: associate analyst @ a fortune 500 IT consulting firm
-Work exp : 3.7 years - all in the same company
-Work profile : project lead
-Worked on : 20 different programming languages in a span of 3 years (something that may speak of my ability to learn quick and adapt probably)
-received one of the fastest promotions in my company
- multiple awards for innovation and technical skills.
- clients worked for as part of IT consulting
include Inter Active Corporation, Ebay and BNP paribas.
- lead a 25 member team over a period of two years that
saw eleven projects being successfully executed.

Also:
Associated for three years as the process improvement specialist at
an education institution (an elementary and high school). There are lots
that I have accomplished here that include complete transformation of the way the
institution functioned.

INTERNS: (two interns - both in operations) @ two different start ups belonging to my friends.

THE BAD:
I was scheduled for a promotion and an onsite offer when the client pulled the plug off the project
forcing it to close and ending my hope of a promotion / onsite offer.

UNDER GRADUATION (not sure if its good or bad)
75% Under Graduation ( I am not sure how much that is on the 4 point scale. I got to know from wikipedia and a few other websites that its close to 3.3-3.6. The Indian systems are quite tough and I am afraid as to how would the translation from percentage to a 4 point scale happen. I would like some confirmation on that. I wrote to a few schools at US and they haven't yet replied on the same.)
The good however being, I wrote a lab manual for a paper at one of the labs during my undergraduation
which is being followed even till today.

Please let me know of my chances at big universities like MIT sloan (LGO program), MBA
Harvard MBA,Stanford MBA, Wharton, Judge, Said, Yale, Ross Michigan, Booth, Stern, London Business school and the ISB.

HBS, Stanford, Wharton, MIT and LBS will be tough. Apart from your GMAT score ( which is very good) you will find it hard to differentiate yourself and come up with a story which is exciting enough for these top 5-6 schools.

Judge, Ross, Said, ISB, Yale and Stern are achievable.

Talk about your IT experience in your story but honestly most candidates find it hard to use IT experience ( be it 5 different projection. good promotions, different languages etc as almost everyone writes that) to differentiate themselves from other IT applicants.

Focus more on your experience with the startups and other stuff from extra curriculars.

Dont worry about you undergrad GPA. Your GMAT is good enough to compensate for that.

I had forgotten to mention North Eastern Univ in that list :(

Is there anything I could do to improve upon something in my professional work related
area that may help me into one of the four - HBS, MIT, LBS or Stanford ?
Is there atleast a 50-50 chance to make it here if I made the essays interesting?

I mean, I could only state whatever experience I have.
DO you mean to say, IT consulting is too common ?
Do I switch fields .. because honestly I tried my best to move into the
business consulting domain of my company, but somehow it did not happen as they wanted an MBA ..
So, how do I make up the profile for the same ?
Will an MS help the cause ?

Please let me know your thoughts on the same.

From which Indian university did you graduate? The competitiveness of the undergraduate institution weighs heavily for Indian candidates because of the great number of applicants from that country.

I agree with the other poster that HBS, MIT, LBS, or Stanford (along with Wharton) will be very tough with your lower grades from a non-IIT/NIT undergraduate school. I think Booth is a doable reach while your high GMAT fits in perfectly with a school like ISB.

I do think you can differentiate your professional experience from other Indian technology applicants by emphasizing the leadership aspect of your experience (25-member team) as well as underlying reasons for your receiving awards for innovation.

You can also separate yourself with your clarity in your goals and how your target schools will fit in with those goals.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
If the Grades are the only issue .. will the High GMAT be enough to compensate for that ?
because, I happen to know of another student from the same university - Anna University who made
it to Harvard after doing a BE CS .. with a 770 GMAT .. off course, she had her own business to
show! .. besides, I also saw a few people with UG from .. University of Mumbai .. University of Jadhavpur and so on ..

The other poster mentioned that a high GMAT should be enough to set it right .. Will that do it in my case? ...

I wouldn't talk in such absolutes that a high GMAT would be enough to set it right, rather a high GMAT increases your chances. You should be applying to HBS, just realize it is a long shot and make sure to apply to schools where your probability of admission is higher. Many other Indian candidates will be applying with high GMAT scores.

Non-highly ranked schools send applicants all the time but the numbers are less. FYI - University of Mumbai is considered a highly ranked program, although different from an IIT or NIT.

Hi naildgmat,

We agree with the other opinions that HBS, Wharton, Stanford etc will be a long shot. Nevertheless, you should apply to 1-2 of them and keep few from the other list to have a realistic chance of getting at least one admission.Your undergrad GPA has been more than compensated by your GMAT score and should not be a problem.

If you are applying this then we are not sure if you can improve your work experience in such a short span of time.Think of ways to differentiate yourself.
