I recently was accepted at several top MBA programs and have not committed to any yet. Unfortunately, after being admitted, I made a stupid mistake and got a dui. If I'm convicted, should I make the programs aware of the charge or is not necessary to inform them of it after admission?
Dear mba1234,
It is unfortunate that you were arrested. At this point, I don't think you need to disclose anything as you do not have a conviction on your record. Generally speaking, schools will be more concerned if you had committed a violent offense as you might be a danger to another student, faculty member or administrator. A DUI is not a violent offense, but it can call into question your maturity. In the event you are convicted, it would probably be the best course of action to tell the school you plan to attend. Chances are they won't revoke your admission, but you should be prepared either way.
Good luck,
Lisa
