I am a Canadian currently working in the US. I am looking to apply to MBA schools for fall 09.
Background:
GMAT: 690 (Q 49 / V 35)
MS in Electronic and Bioengineering, University of Toronto. GPA: 3.7
BS in Engineering Physics. GPA: 3.8
4 years of work experience as Inside Sales Engineer in a very small (7 people) sales company in US. Experience: 50% technical, 40% sales, and other skills needed in a small business.
(6 months of engineering internship experience in Japan.)
Board member (digital chairman) of local camera club from year 2006 to 2008.
Pursued commercial photography outside of work. Wanted to start photography business, but did not like that the business model have no revenue when I am not working.
Goal:
To work in consulting, or marketing.
To work in Europe, US, or Asia.
(Preference is from left to right, top to bottom. Upper left being the most desired.)
Questions:
1) I want to work aboard, but I want to use this degree to change career. Should I avoid 1 year program such as Said?
2) Have new loan programs for non-US residents without co-signer for US schools been found (currently only aware that MIT is guaranteed loan to admitted student?) If not, would this be mostly wasted effort to apply to US school?
3) I only have 1 professional reference from the current boss / business owner, and 1 academic from Master’s supervisor. Is this academic reference not suitable? I maybe able to request a reference from a current customer, but our interaction is still limited even thought it spanned 4 years as well. Would this be preferable over the academic supervisor?
4) Thinking of applying to Haas, Rotman(Toronto), CEIBS (China,) and Said. Is this a good and realistic list of schools to apply?
5) Should I apply now (round 3,) apply next year 2010, or get more / different work experience (changing job to different field is very difficult during this global recession.)
