There are 9 different combinations that can happen. Take Jim as the first one and Renee the second.

RR RP RS
PR PP PS
SR SP SS

The combinations RS, PR and SP will give Jim a win so the probability of him winning is 1/3. E.

E. Jim can choose one of the three, in one of them he will lose, in one of them he will draw, and in one of them he will will.
So the probability of Jim winning is 1/3. So are the probabilities of drawing, and losing.

Since there are only three options for Jim to pick from (rock,scissors, or paper) and,likewise, same three options for Renee. There are only these three possibilities of outcome:

There is a 1/3 chance hat Jim wins
There is a 1/3 chance that Jim ties with Renee
There is a 1/3 chance that Jim lose

So, there is a 1/3 prob.for Jim to win
