Hello all,

I made a LAST minute decision last week to take the GMAT and apply to grad school at Ole Miss (im graduating right now) I turned in all my stuff and i was told to score around a 570 or so and i'd be fine.

I have been studying a fair bit ( i have so much other stuff due) and taking some practice stuff from mba.com. I have a Barrons book and have been scoring in the fair/good range on math and just below Excellent on verbal.

I am very good at essays so i'm not THAT concerned about that. Back in the day i made a 1240 on my SAT (88th% in georgia). but i dont know how/if that has any correlation

I really DO want to do well and get it, but I kinda have nothing to lose at this point. I just can't get a feel for how my score would be based on my Barrons practice tests.

Please put me on the right track. My test is friday. Thanks everyone!!!

You're probably good to go as it is. 570 isn't that hard if you're already doing alright on Verbal, which is the trickiest part due to most peoples' lack of experience with proper grammar.

Probably not the most risk-adverse strategy, but I didn't start really cracking until about 2 or 3 weeks before, so its very possible if you have a natural talent.

The essay, problem solving, reading comprehension, and critical reasoning are fairly 'wingable'.

Since time is so tight, I would concentrate on sentence correction and data sufficiency.

Sjaltenb,

Don't bother taking Barron's tests. With a week to go, take GMATPrep tests to finetune your pacing and go over the solutions either from GMATFix solutions engine (https://gmatfix.com/sols/gmatprep_demo.php if you need quant solutions right away) or by posting your Qs here and someone will help you.

Pls stop promoting your gmatfix in this forum.Folks need help to ace GMAT not through your almighty gmatfix you are implictly advertising here all the time.

OK so i made a 580 on my first GMATPrep practice test. I skipped the writing part, does that have any effect on it?

How accurate is this test, how much deviation from the real thing?

I feel pretty good about it now...

well it depends, and in part there can be variation based on your behaviour (if you are nervous or not)

Personally my results were within about 20 points of the real thing.

Skipping the AWA does not affect your Total Score, HOWEVER, in the real thing it will eat up an hour of your time, so you might be tired going into the quantitative.

Well I took another one today and, among a lot of distractions, I made a 620!

I think i'll be good to go, as I talked to my admissions and told them i made a 580/620 and they thought it was great.

So anyways, thanks for the help.

well hot dog!

congrats! :o

just think of all the money you saved by not having to take an expensive course and not having to rewrite. I went on a small shopping spree after I did well on my first try.
