Recommendations (Please Advise)

by ToyaDe » Sun Mar 04, 2012 2:07 pm
I am in the process of getting my recommendations for NYU Stern Langone in order, and I was wondering who I should choose to write my second recommendation. The company I work for has band levels for management employees and my first recommendation will be comming from my current supervisor who is half a band level above me. For my second recommendation I can either ask my section manager who is 1.5 band levels above me and has been in the company for forty years or a co-worker who is at the same level as my supervisor, half a band level above me. The only thing is that the co-worker is a current NYU grad student in her final semester at the Wagner School of Public Service. I don't know if her being an NYU student will even matter since she is not a Sternie.

Who is the better choice, the higher level section manager or the current NYU grad student?

Section manager. Hands down. First of all being an NYU student carries little to no weight, esp if they are not from Stern. Secondly supervisors are FAR more effective than colleagues as recommenders.
