Did kaplan screw up on this question?

Did kaplan screw up on this question?

Hey gang,

please have a look at the question in the attachment. It says that [/img]c is correct. however it is has "consider to be" in it. i always thought there is no "to be" and no "as" after "consider".

am i mistaken or did kaplan screw up on this question?

First, your request is a little confusing. You say Kaplan said C is correct, but you quote an error from D.

Anyway, imo, C is incorrect. The sentence is a fragment: what is the subject? "a fictionalized accounting"? It has no verb. Is it "literary historians"? They cannot be modified by the beginning of the sentence (which talks about something that was written).

D has correct structure - the part before the comma correctly modifies 'The Tale of Genji'. I think it's true that 'considered to be' is not a favorite on the GMAT but it's also not grammatically incorrect. So this is the best answer.
