I'd like to understand whether or not taking additional classes in economics or finance can have an effect on how an admissions board views your application.
Very briefly, I went to an extremely small liberal arts school for undergrad. I earned a 3.6 GPA, but I also have no math or science courses in my background. It was all English Lit, Philosophy, and languages.
I'm aiming for at least a 720 on my GMAT.
And in terms of work experience, I run a small publishing company and I have been both an art director and the director of strategy at a mid-sized advertising agency in New York for 5 years.
Finally, I'm applying to several top ten US schools, and Harvard's admissions criteria page, for instance, states, "you must, however, demonstrate the ability to master analytical and quantitative concepts." And I can't tell if they're implying, look, if you kill it on the GMAT, that's demonstration enough, or if they're saying, you need to have basic finance/econ under your belt.
I'd love a little insight into this.
Thanks!
