Hi, The following question is from Set 24. The operation* represents either addition, subtraction, or multiplication of integers, what is the value of 1*0? (1) 0*2=2 (2) 2*0=2 It appears to me that the answer is D for this question. From (1), we can figure that the operator is addition, and so we ca...

GMAT Sets answers accurate?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has looked into this - the accuracy of the answers provided for the GMAT Sets. I took them to be correct so far - even though sometimes I was suspicious! But the following one, where the listed answer looks clearly wrong, got me thinking. This is a question from Set26-V...

Hi, From the problem statement, it is clear that each of the smaller triangles are of the same area (all are equilateral triangles and the ratio of the sides etc implies this). Since three of the four triangles are shaded, the shaded area of the bigger triangle is K*3/4. OR (I proceeded the followin...

Hi, This is the sum of a progression kind of problem.

The 1st person would shake with 9 others, the 2nd would do with 8 others etc. So, the final answer would 9+8+...+1 = 9*(9+1)/2 = 45.

Hi,
Couldn't we solve this using information in (i) x=30? With this info the small triangle (ABD) becomes a 30-60-90 and we know the length of one of the sides, so we can figure the other two sides. Once, we've this info, we can use the similar triangle method to solve it. So, the answer would be D.

First team can be formed in 8C2 / 4 ways Second team in 6C2 / 3 ways Third team in 4C2 /2 ways last team in 2C2 /1 ways We have to divide by 4, 3, 2, 1 respectively since there are duplicates i.e. AB-CD and CD-AB are the same. So, we have 8C2/4 * 6C2/3 * 4C2/2 * 2C2/1 = 105 ? Hi Jayhawk2001, I was ...

Hi Isis Alaska, From what I remember from the Manhattan SC book, whenever you've an and between two subjects (singular or otherwise), the composite subject should be treated as plural .. the composite one would be the subject, not the one closer to the verb. That's why, I think C would be the correc...

Reorganizing the following equation a little differently leads us to the answer quite quickly.

5^21 x 4^11=2 x 10^n

5^21 x (2^2)^11 = 2 x 10^n

5^21 x 2^22 = 2 x 10^n

(5x2)^21 x 2 = 2 x 10^n

10^21 = 10^n

So n=21.

Hi, I'm not sure if the following is the most efficient way to do it. At least for me it was quick to do this way! in solution Y = 30% x + 70% w(ater) So, in 8kg of Y = 2.4x + 5.6w from this 2kg water is removed (Evaporated) so, in the remaining 6kg Y = 2.4x + 3.6w. Now 2kg Y is added, which has 0.6...

It appears that the above equations can be reorganized a bit to make it easy for the further processing:

x = sqrt(4xy - 4y^2)

x^2 = 4xy - 4y^2

x^2 - 4xy + 4y^2 = 0

(x-2y)^2 = 0

x- 2y = 0

x = 2y

Answer is A

The question is asking for the net income before taxes. The taxes are levied on income after the first 3000. Assume income before taxes is x. The total net income after taxes: (x-3000) * 0.9 + 3000 = 12000 (x-3000) * 0.9 = 9000 x = 9000/0.9 + 3000 x = 13000 0.9 above is the income left after taxes o...
