I downloaded the flsh cards three times - but when I try to open the file I get an error message "there was an error opening this document - could not repair file" Am I doing something wrong or is the file corrupted?

Thanks for your help!
Appears to be downloading fine for me. Perhaps you're using an old version of Acrobat?
problem is different. You should try some download accelerators such as Orbit GetFlash etc.

Normal download gives following error as uptowngirl just mentioned above.

Thanks man!

One question: do we all agree that on Page 61 on the card "Probability and Geometry" the "Y" in the third last line should be an "X"?

Cheers

"One of the" card - possible mistake

by Alexandra S » Tue Jun 16, 2009 1:45 am
Hi there

I think there is a mistake on page 15. It's about the card labelled "one of the". As follows from the article https://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/GRAMMAR/one.htm the use of "one of PLURAL NOUN + SINGULAR VERB" construction is unusual. In The New Fowler's Modern English Usage edited by R.W. Burchfield. Clarendon Press: Oxford, England, 1996 the author writes, "A plural verb in the subordinate clause is recommended unless particular attention is being drawn to the uniqueness, individuality, etc., of the one in the opening clause".

Maybe I'm wrong, but I'd like to attract your attention to this issue.

flash cards missing letters fl

by mirral » Thu Jun 18, 2009 5:57 am
I just downloaded the flashcards and every word that has a letter sequence "fl" seems to be missing. If I plain text the cards the "fl" is there. An ideas.

Hey guys,

Ive been going through Eric's flashcards and I noticed some stuff I am not too sure whether this is really correct.

1) One of the + PLURAL NOUN + that/who + SINGULAR VERB
"He is one of the persons who bakes spectacular cakes."

--> Isn't that concept incorrect? Shouldn't there be a plural verb? Look at this: https://www.urch.com/forums/faqs/3978-gm ... bakes.html

2) None should be singular, even when, to your ear, it seems as though it should be plural.
"None of the boys enjoys camping as he does."

--> How certain are we that this is correct? Imo this is just a quantifier followed by an "of-phrase". In Manhattan GMAT Prep Sentence Correction (#8) Guide on page 48 it says: (...) SANAM pronouns (Some, Any, None, All, More/Most) could be either plural or singular depending on what is contained in the "of-phrase".

3) Compare actions to like actions:
"Beeswax candles burn more cleanly than synthetic candles."

--> I know that this is not the gist of this flashcard, however shouldnt it say: "Beeswax candles burn more cleanly than synthetic candles do?

4) Target to
"The chocolate company targeted its advertising to single women."

--> Shouldn't it be "targeted at single women"? When do you say target at and when do you say target to?

thanks

Thanks for this feedback! I'm in the process of editing the flashcards to make these concepts more clear. I hope to push out a new version early next week.

Thanks again for calling out these confusing areas--it's great for the community who uses this flashcard set.

Also, one neat side note: these flashcards have been downloaded over 100,000 times to date, woo hoo!
