x, y

If y is an integer and y =|x| + x, is y = 0?

(1) x < 0
(2) y < 1

1) The absolute value of x is always positive, if x itself is negative then their sum is 0.
2) If y is smaller than 1 and it must be an integer then its highest value is 0. |x| + x could be both positive or positive + negative, however, since the sum must be an integer smaller than 1, it must be positive + negative.

For statement 2 - y has to integer. only negative values of x will yield y < 1.
