What's PowerPrep?

by fleurdelisse » Tue Apr 21, 2009 8:09 am
A lot of people talk about PowerPrep, as being a different exam than GMAT Prep:

1. Is it harder or easier than GMAT Prep?
2. Where can I find it?

Thanks.

PowerPrep is the old version of GMATPrep. I don't know if it's easier, but the interface is quite different and it features older GMAT questions than what you see on GMATPrep.

I'm not sure where you can find this software anymore. Perhaps some of the file sharing sites like esnips?

Good luck.

PowerPrep is the GMAT prep test put out by the official testing service in the past. It is essentially the same as the current GMATPrep, except that the two tests use slightly different algorithms. Either way, you'll get roughly the same scores on PowerPrep and GMATPrep.

I took both PowerPrep tests and GMATPrep1 this weekend and received 700, 680, and 700. Thus, I am convinced that PowerPrep is as good an indicator of preparedness as is GMATPrep.

PowerPrep uses many questions from OG10; my understanding is that GMATPrep does not use many OG10 questions.

You can download the two PowerPrep GMAT tests for free on several internet websites. Just do a google search.

One more significant benefit of taking the powerprep apart from GMATPrep is that Powerprep provides explanations to the questions whereas gmatprep does not seem to offer that.

You would find many questions (app. 20%) those appearing in powerprep from OG11 - reason is simple they are all retired GMAT questions.

Verdict - Great Practice of real GMAT questions.
