Top 10 according to which List

by mundasingh123 » Sat Dec 17, 2011 2:10 pm
Hi Sir,
I found that a number of Expert profile evaluations, for BTG Members , advise people that they have a better chance at schools below the top 10 . So, does this refer to the top 10 schools in the world or the top 10 schools in the US . Also the top 10 schools differ in ranking from one list to another.
Booth is no 1 according to Bus. Week But beyond top 10 according to economist . Could someone clear the air on this ?

Sir, I think these things do not matter and you should concenterate on picking the right schools, researching them, while reflecting on your life and goals.

Yes sir, but rankings are no way to judge academic, cultural and professional fit.

If you would like to discuss your profile please mail me [email protected].

It seems that you did not apply in R1 and are scramblin in R2. It would be best to get a qualified opinion on your profile. I'm from Punjab and understand the Indian pool well, you can also leverage free advice from other consultants. These will help you more than worrying about rankings.

Frankly speaking sir,I took the test only last month . By the time i was done with the GMAT,I had missed the R1 deadlines. I submitted my first app for ISB , when i wrote essays for the first time for an International FT Ranked B-school and i used up a lot of time since trying to read application guides ,researching on application content and introspection.
I really appreciate your help.

Aha! Which ranking to use?
A big secret- the ranking don't matter, as long as you can reach your goals.
Yes, everybody knows that going to Harvard is better than going to Rutgers. But what is the difference between number 1 ranked school on one list and on another? Are the American rankings too concentrated on American programs? is FT too concentrated on global programs? What's the difference between schools 23,23, and 14?

All good questions.

Wise words were said above: Choose the school that is right for YOU.

If you really want to decide which are the best rankings, you can do that too on a PERSONAL level. On most ranking websites they include some notes about their methodology. So read those notes and see which ranking system fits you best.
