While you can solve this algebraically using the system of equations (3p = 2q, 3q = 2r, 3r = 2s and p + q + r + s = 1300), because of the time restrictions on the test this one works well for plugging in the answers. Start with the middle choice and assume p = 240. If p = 240, then q = 360, r = 540 ans s = 810. However the total of these values is greater than 1300, so this answer is not correct. Try a smaller number. If p = 160, q = 240, r = 360 and s = 540. In this case p + q + r + s does equal 1300, so this is the answer. The answer is choice B.
