IMO C
WE should use 'like' to compare nouns. Here we are comparing public's appetite which is a verb and so as should be used.
Since public is singular we should use 'its' instead of 'their'.

Please help me answer this question.

Only A\C are correct options here
Use of like to compare a clause is wrong.

Documentry films are compared with nonfiction books.
I would go with A.
