I prepared for ~ 2 months while working full time:

Preparation Methodology

Quant: All about practice. GMATprep extremely good resource for quant

Verbal:

SC: Manhattan SC book is awesome. I think this book alone improved my verbal score by few points.Practice with GMAtprep and ETS paper tests

CR and RC : Just practice with GMATprep and Paper tests. Donot use MGMAT or princeton review for this

AWA: does not matter and nobody cares!

D-Day debrief to follow...

Any questions, I am happy to help

Congrats! Did you use the OG's at all or did you just go for the prep tests?

Hi Gandalf, first of all, congratulations on your score. I have a quick question with regards to re-installing the GMAT prepr software. Do we need to re-install to make sure the questions are different when tryng to take multiple times? Does that really help instead of using the same prep software? Also, just wondering what did you prepare during the very last few days before the test. Appreciate your response.

To hydgrr and mbadrew
.
Yes, I used OG! I did almost every single verbal question on OG and found it very good practice. I think even the quant fundamentals in OG are very good (though brief!).

For SC, mahattan SC book is most important. If you understand everything in that book, I think you should ace SC.

Even if you uninstall, the log files are still retained and this prevents you from getting a totally random question set

Just go to this folder C:\Program Files\GMATPrep\exams\ and delete all the files here.

Hi Gandalf !

Awesome score... congratulations !
Some guidance please...

I am taking my exam in about fifteen days... have scored 680-700 in the last two Power Prep tests I took ( within last 10 days ).

I will start with my GMAT Prep tests in another day or two...

1. You have mentioned that you took the GMAT Prep tests 5 times each... did you write the essays all the five times ??? Would that help ???

2. How many times do you think should I attempt the GMAT Prep tests in these last 15 days to get the maximum out of them ?

3. Any other suggestions ??

You score is an inspiration Pal and your suggestions will be greatly valued !!!

Thanks

Glad to be of help!

1) I wrote the essay only on 2 of the tests because each GMATprep test uses the same essay topics.

2)last 15 days, I would say maybe 5 or 6

3)any other..hmmm..just be confident on the test day..confidence can make the exam look really easy and a joyful experience!

Good luck, dude.

D-Day debrief

by gandalf » Thu Jul 10, 2008 6:51 pm
D-Day Experience

Took an appointment in early morning. Was a little jet lagged the previous day as I had just come back from a 2 week Japan business trip.

so, slept only 4 hours before the D-day

Test: AWA went very smooth and knew I should get a 5.5 or a 6.0.
Took a break and got ready for quant. I am an engineer and have never feared quant. The quant was really simple all the way through. I think I might have made some silly mistakes in the initial questions or this was just my lucky day. Felt it would be a 50 or 51 for sure.

Verbal also went very smooth. My RC's were mostly inference questions and so I knew I was doing ok. Towards the end, verbal was so easy, I thought I messed up bad. Finished with 5 minutes to spare.

Clicked through the survey and voila

770 Q49 V49..pumped my fist..but was wondering how i got only 49 on the quant..I have to say attitude during the exam can be a deciding factor!
