Skype i/v best practises

by bblast » Fri Nov 25, 2011 10:10 am
Hey Experts,
Posting here after a long time. Wrote apps for 2 months post GMAT and here are the interviews barging in. Can you provide me a few best practices for the Skype video interview ?

1>How far should be the laptop screen/cam from my face ?
2>Is it ok to have water during the i/v ?
3>Is it ok to keep a piece of paper for reference to things such as questions for adcom ?
4>Other quick tips on presentation.

I am prepared with the content- Need pointers on the presentation.

Also I've noticed through mocks with friends that I speak considerably better on webcam than on phone (without video). Any pointers on this in case Skype fails ?
Cheers !!

Hey BBlast!

Congrats on your interview! Make sure you wear a suit (and pants!). Watch your body language. Lean forward rather than slouching or reclining. Remember to smile. Check your lighting before the call to make sure it isn't too harsh, casting too many shadows on your face. It's best to sit in front of a window with natural light as your light if possible. If that's not possible, use a lamp. If Skype goes out, just keep your own webcam on so you can see yourself if that will help you feel like you are still on video. The problem is you won't be able to see the other person and read their cues. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
