Understanding lower than unexpected offical scores

I'm taking the official exam soon, and reading the forums has been hugely helpful and inspiring for me. However, some of the stories have also freaked me out -- namely the stories where people scored significantly higher on their practice tests than they did on the actual exam (more than just the ex...

B-schools look for a diverse student body. What's most important for people from non-traditional backgrounds is that you demonstrate the impact that you've had on the company and how your unique experiences will allow you to contribute to the school.

It's not a disadvantage.

If you buy any of the MGMAT guides, you get access to 6 of their tests. I don't have any personal experience with Grockit, but the MGMAT tests have been hugely helpful in helping me identify my weak areas and timing issues. MGMAT has a series of reporting features that tell you how long you spent on...

Practice tests are meant to build your stamina, but the actual act of taking the test won't increase your score. If you're taking a test every day, are you leaving yourself enough time to thoroughly review all of the problems? You should review the problems you got correct to figure out if there was...

<t>1) Are you planning to apply this year? If you have time to retake the GMAT, it would be worth it to improve your quant score. <br/> <br/> 2) 7+ years is significantly above the average for most top full-time programs. The average is typically around 3-5 years, with quality being more important t...

Most admissions committees will only consider your highest score, so don't worry about the second test. You should retake the GMAT if you have time and believe that you can do significantly better, and if the average for your target schools is significantly above 660.

If you feel that you are a strong candidate, then you should apply. Without knowing more about you, except that you don't have a strong resume, it's going to be impossible for anyone to give you advice on what you should do.

FYI, Stanford also has a similar program.

The time greatly varies for each person. Manhattan's Number Properties guide contains a lot of important information, so it makes sense that you would spend a significant amount of time on it. Depending on your current level and your target score, you may not need to spend as much time on some of th...

Congrats on a great score. Getting a 730 after having never previously crossed the 700 barrier must have been an amazing feeling.

I agree with Jim; they are all definitely important. However, if it's not possible for you to work on all of them, try pinpointing your strengths and weaknesses. Have you taken a MGMAT diagnostic test? If you're already strong in one area, you could skip that particular book or spend less time with ...

Bryan, It can be extremely frustrating to not see clear evidence of meaningful progress in our practice tests. However, don't give up. You just need to change your approach. I think you're taking too many practice tests and not spending enough time reviewing. You should be reviewing every question, ...

No, there's no penalty for spending more time on a question. Spending an average of 2-minutes per question is typically recommended, but you may spend less time on easier questions and slightly more time on more challenging questions.

Apply when your application is strongest, so 2nd round is fine. Just don't apply after that. Also, I think you're devoting too much attention to the number of incorrect responses. It's more important to pay attention to the difficulty level. Lastly, it will be very challenging to increase your score...
