would be helpful to have an instructor (or anyone else) give a detailed explanation with the final answer - still seems to be a lot of confusion over this question.
Thank you!

I thought I would paste the IM conversation for others to learn from the questions. This is how I see it. 1/3 less spent on tv would mean 1/3*60 = 20 yes a '1/3' of 60 = 20 but 'a 1/3 less' than 60 = 40. this is because a 1/3 = 20, total = 60 and so '1/3 less' than 60 = 60-20 = 40 Hope that helps.

algebraically you can solve as follows:
x= amount spent.
on stereo = x/4
on tv = (x/4)*(2/3) = 2x/12 = x/6 (note: 1- 1/3 = 2/3)
total spent = x/4 + x/6 = 3x/12 + 2x/12 = 5x/12 = 5/12 *x.
hope that helps.

you can solve it algebraically.
is z>x+10/2 -> 2z>x+10
1.10-z<z-x -> 10+x<2z -> suff
2.10x>x+10 -> 9x>10 -> x>9/10 -> x can be many different nums hence insuff
hope that helps.

Re: What is the value of x?
First thing we need to understand: by mathematical convention, the phrase "square root of" or the square root symbol are translated as "the positive square root of". Stuart, if I understand correctly can I simply add an absolute sign around the value of the square root to avoid ...

notice that both statements are giving you the same information since the only the sign of the y variable differs on the right hand side, the absolute value remains unchanged. from either of the statement we get x<=-y+3 or x<=y+3. subtracting the eqns gives us -2y=0->y=0 so x<=3 which still doesnt h...

Since each report is assigned randomly, you can look at each report as its own probability: Since there are 3 options of where each report can do and 4 total reports, your total number of options is 3*3*3*3 = 3^4. I would look at the term "at least 1" as "NOT Zero" or "1 - ...
