The longest side of a triangle is 20 and another of its side has length 10. If its area is 80, then what is the exact length of its third side? (A) √240 (B) √250 (C) √260 (D) √270 (E) √280 Made up Lets say ABC is the triangle with sides BC = 20, AB = 10, AC = ? Draw AD ⊥ BC, lets say AD...

MGMAT must have rephrased the second statement which is given as x+y+1 < 0 by taking 1 on the right hand side of the inequality an thus changing it into -1. From (1) we have z > x+y+1. z-1 > x+y 2z-1 > x+y+z Since main question says x+y+z>0, we have 2z -1 > 0 or z>1/2. So z >0. Even 1) alone should ...

I think you need to mention that the length of rope is same for all the horses. Otherwise the answer will be different.
Am I correct?

Let the length of the square box between x and 3 be y.
So area of shaded region is 3x+9+3y+3x+9 = 6x+18+3y.
Area of unshaded region is 3y+3x+9+3y = 6y+3x+9.
So 6x+18+3y = 6y+3x+9
Or 3y - 3x = 9
Or y - x = 3.
Or y = 3+x
Also x+y+3 = 9.
Or 3+x+x+3 = 9.
Or 2x = 3
Or x = 3/2 = 1.5

Let X do 1 work in "a" hours and let Y do 1 work in "b" hours. X does 1/2 work in a/2 hours and Y does 1/2 work in b/2 hours. So a/2 + b/2 = 6. Or a+b = 12. b= 12 - a (1) means 1/a + 1/b = 1/3. Or 3(12-a) +3a = 12a - a^2 Or a^2 - 12a +36 = 0. Or a = 6. So (1) is suff. (2) is not ...

(1) is not sufficient because xy = 0 means either x is 0 or y is zero or both are zero. Both will not be zero because it is given that x^2+y^2 = 1. If x= 0, then y^2 = 1, this means y = =1 or -1. So x+y =1 or -1 If y = 0 , then x^2 = 1, this means x = 1 or -1. So x+y = -1 or 1. From (2) y =0, this m...
