AWA Percentiles
I got a 4.5 on my analytical writing. I wasn't pleased with this, but I've heard really good writing will get you a 5.0, and it's nearly impossible to get 6. So, I didn't think 4.5 was bad -- BUT my report says that is in the 37th percentile. Does anyone know how that can be? From graphs I've seen, ...

Thanks all, for the great responses. akahuja143, not to burst your bubble, but there are two people on this thread who were scoring above 700 on MGMAT tests and got under 600 on the real GMAT, and one peron who thinks that the real GMAT is similar to or easier than the real GMAT -- why would this th...

I used some GMATPrep and Kaplan software for mini tests on specific subjects. The GMATPrep stuff seemed too easy, and the Kaplan questions didn't give me very much time per question -- so I wasn't thrilled about either. Plus the software is really cumbersome fpr both, and the explanations were't tha...

After studying for 6 months and averaging 680 on a few MGMAT practice tests I took the real GMAT today and got a 590. Needless to say I'm confused and deflated, but this thread gives me some hope. If anyone else is trying to make a similar jump and wants to discuss progress/strategy, I am certainly ...

MGMAT Scores Inflated?
After 6 months of rigorous studying, mainly using MGMAT, I was averaging about a 670 on my practice tests, and my last two practice scores were 700 and 710 -- all on MGMATs software. I took the real GMAT today, and scored a 570. Needless to say I was shocked and seriously saddened by my score. I now...

Mutilplying Through
One of my MGMAT books shows
1/2z - 1/x ==> x-2z/2xz.
I believe this is a very basic step where you "multiply through" with "xz", or something, but I just don't see it for some reason. Can anyone out there break down how exactly this step is done?
Thanks!

Can someone please explain how you go from 1/2z-1/x to x-2z/2xz? I don't understand those steps.
Thanks...

Thanks, but I still don't understand why the radius is 3/pi rather than 3pi. Given formula Pi*r^2*h, I would think we would get Pi*3^2*10 ==> Pi(9)(10) ==> 90pi. What is the step that moves Pi to the denominator? I have a feeling I'm missing something obvious but I just don't see it for some reason...

This is a problem taken from an actual GMAT test. This is silly I'm sure, but I thought the answer was D). Why is the pi sign in the denominator? For example, the cylinder with a height of 10 and a base circumference of 6, has a radius of (3/pi) -- so its volume is pi(3/pi)^2 (10), which = 90/pi. Bu...
