this means that 100 (= 2 x 2 x 5 x 5) is the smallest number of which both x and y are factors. inter alia, this means that at least one of x and y must contain two 2's, and at least one of them must contain two 5's. but that doesn't answer the question of whether there are three 2's in the product....
