Hi,

I heard very quickly from HKUST and had an interview in early Jan. I don't know how their review process works though... Maybe you could still hear from them...

I did some digging around and I think I've got it. The idiom for 'ensure' is: Right: I ENSURE THAT my toenails ARE clipped. She ENSURES THAT her place WILL BE kept. Wrong: He ENSURES THAT deadlines MUST BE met. She ENSURES THAT her car SHOULD BE sold. So, the means (b), (c) and (e) are out because t...

I think it is (C). (A) and (E) are wrong because "it" refers to nuclear power and "nuclear power is just over 33 percent" is not complete. (B) is wrong because the comparison of "Germany" and "the energy" does not make sense. (D) is awkward because "in Ge...

Mohit, Manhattan also says that fractions and percentages are exceptions just like the SANAM pronouns. It is under the heading "Quantity Words and Phrases" in Chapter 3 in the book I own Sentence Correction Third Edition . I believe One of falls into the eliminate the middlemen category. P...

I believe that 3 & 4 are incorrect because it does not make sense to have one of a singular thing. You could say "half of the document" was stolen though. In 1 & 2, "one" is the subject and is singular, so the verb has to be 'was'. This is quite confusing because had it b...

I agree it is between A & D, but I think it is A rather because there "distinguish ... from ..." is an idiom.

The plural noun "projections" is the subject of the sentence, therefore we can eliminate all the answers with singular verbs - (A), (B) and (D). "Indicate" is a reporting verb which must always be followed by a "that". Also, a verb is more concise than "to be"...

In (A), "to supplement" is redundant because of the extent that ... helps. This is not true in (B). So, (A) is not as concise as (B).

Adding "the fact that" is unjustified and wordy, hence (B) and (E) can be eliminated. In (C) and (E), 'whose' does not agree with 'depiction'. (D) makes the singular noun 'depiction' the subject of the phrase which does not match the plural verb 'reduce'.

That only leaves (A).

I believe answer is C because the idiom is "more ... than" and not "more ... as", that leaves C & D, but D introduces a passive voice so C is better.
