690 after only a month of prep is a great score. It proves that you have a naturally ability to do well on standardized tests. Depending on what schools you're targeting and factors such as whether you're in a competitive applicant pool (ie. engineers, i-bankers) you might want to give it another go...

I think the first thing you need to do is a bit of reflection on what you did to prepare the first time and develop a new game plan. How much time (hrs/week) did you devote to study? Did you do questions under timed conditions? Did you review explanations and seek help on every question you got wron...

Don't rush your application. Study hard, re-write the gmat and apply early decision for the 2010 app cycle.

It really depends on where you're at right now and what your goal is. If you're scoring in the 20's in verbal and want to get into the 40's then there really isn't a quick fix. Reading comprehension can only be improved by doing a lot of reading (ie. something that can't be crammed). Sentence correc...

I agree. I think this is a strong profile for a top program. Clearly this is a person with the academic horsepower to be successful in Bschool. I think starting a venture shows that this person is innovative and will have a lot to contribute in class discussions. This person is involved in the Pton ...

I believe 3-4 months is a solid amount of time for prep. Any more and it starts to drag, any less and you might not be doing enough. I would suggest 2-3 months of learning the fundamentals and practicing and then spend the last month doing 12-15 practice CAT exams under realistic conditions. Of cour...

Absolutely, but you must live eat, breathe, and s*** GMAT. For example, let's say you just spent one month answering all of the OG 10 Questions (1458), Kaplan 800, and one other book of your choice. You spent about 30 days answering at least 100 questions per day of varying difficulty and then revi...

Paper tests are not good indicators of what you'll score on a CAT. They should simply be viewed as practice questions.

Have you taken the GMAT Prep tests? Those are probably the best predictor of your test day performance (+/- 30 pts).
If you got a 710 on PR but your best GMAT Prep was 650 then that might be a cause for concern.

I've never used the 4GMAT.com lesson books. I do think the Manhattan guides for quant are very thorough. Almost overkill... For practice, I really like the gmatclub.com math challenge tests. If you want to score 50-51 on quant then you might want to consider doing a few of those. http://gmatclub.com...

I did my undergrad and masters in Computer Engineering at CMU. Tepper is a great school. I hope you're ready to WORK. CMU is no-joke (monster academics). Be prepared for many a sleepless night. On the bright side, I guarantee that you'll be a die-hard Steelers fan by the end of your program. Also, t...

Great post... Some people just enroll in a prep class and think that they'll get a higher score. Unfortunately, you still have to do the work. There's simply no way around it. The advantage of taking a prep class is that you have structure and a proven framework for success not to mention access to ...
