Re: if a+b=10, what is the value of b?
I'm little scared about this types of question.
What if a=1 in statement 1? if this is the thing then statement 2 provides a=2 (when it is calculated). Are these different values of a in highlighted part violate the rules of DS? Is this type of question (if a=1) legit for GMAT?

Can you explain the statement 2, please? My explanation says that w= ±10. If I consider the value of w= +10 too, will the statement 2 contradict statement 1 where the value of w is only negative value?
