Because verbal is all about focus, logic, and attention to detail, I find that a regular meditation practice is a good way to boost that raw score a few points. (Just know that the leap from V42 to V46 is a tough one.) Maybe I'm just being a bit delusional, but I actually feel that my focus has bee...

There's a style and logic to the hardest real GMAT Verbal questions that prep company questions do not replicate. I would not advise you use any questions for practice besides official ones. Many thanks for your reply. I think that will be my plan moving forward over the next 6-8 weeks. My basic id...

- Test anxiety can cause scores to be lower on test day than on practice exams. If you think this will be an issue for you, there's lots of great advice on this forum about managing test stress. But to answer your question more generally - I very rarely have students whose real scores are wildly di...

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone. Just so I'm clear, I don't plan on waiting until I "consistently" score 750 on practice CATs before I book an appointment. I realize that I'm at least reasonably close to my target score at right, but I just think achieving the jump from my last pra...

Advice on improving from a V42 to a V46?

I've been fortunate to date on my practice tests and have generally fared really well on the Verbal section. My first three Verbal scores were, in order, 41, 42, and 42. All good scores, I know, but I am frustrated at the lack of improvement that I'm seeing. I thought SC was my biggest weakness, but...

When you took these 3 CATs, did you take the ENTIRE CAT (including the Essay and IR sections) and take the CAT in a realistic and test-like fashion? When are you planning to apply to Business School? Do you know which Schools you want to apply to? Rich All three CATs included Essay and IR, and were...

Accuracy of Manhattan GMAT Practice CATs?

Made a 680 and a 690, respectively, on my first two official practice tests from GMAT Prep. After a few more weeks of study, this past Friday I took the free CAT offered by Manhattan GMAT, in which I scored a 710 (I'm trying to save the final two GMAT Prep practice tests for later in my prep). All g...

Thus, the number of ways to arrange 4 of 12 contestants = 12!/(12-4)! = 12!/8!.
Aha, now I've got you. Please ignore my reply above, and many thanks for all of the help!

There has to just be something I'm missing here. The original post indicates the OA is 8!/4! (i.e. 1680 ways), yet Mitch's post states the correct answer is 12!8! (i.e. 11,800 ways). What am I missing? The OA posted above is wrong. In all likelihood, the OP transcribed the OA incorrectly. Haha, tha...

I worked through this problem yesterday and was conceptually fine on it -- i.e. recognized the 30-60-90 triangle, the fixed relationships for side lengths, and the need to add the 7 feet to the final answer -- but I ended up choosing the wrong answer because I didn't assign the 30 and 60 degree angl...

Mitch's explanation is correct because each ribbon IS unique and each contestant can only win one ribbon (so once a contestant wins a ribbon, he/she cannot win another one). Hi Rich, I get how my answer (12!/[8!4!]) is wrong, and I understand my mistake in coming to that (and clearly you are right ...

I'm glad to hear your practice scores are proving to be consistent. Now that you have a couple under your belt, have you had the chance to review and compare both of your practice CATs? Take the time to review for patterns in your test-taking habits right now and you'll likely find a concept or two...
