Hey raunekk, Thanks for the prompt reply. But why it should be B and E. I do not think that spread of caterers has any relevance to the decision of investing in catering business. Also, how many people say that they have catered reception is unknown. The information given in B for 2nd question is mo...

R works for 36 hours. (Finishes 1/36 th of a job in 1 hr)
S works for 18 hrs. (Finishes 1/18 th of a job in 1 hr)
Hence R finishes - 1/18th of a job in 2 hrs
S finishes - 1/9 th of a job in 2 hrs
Let the machines be x in number.
x/9 + x/18 = 1
Solve for x.
x = 6

(sqrt 2 + sqrt 5) ^ 2 is of the form (a+b)^2 = a^2 + b^2 + 2 ab
or, 2 + 5 + 2( sqrt 2 * sqrt 5) = 7 + 2( sqrt 10)
sqrt 10 > sqrt 9 which is 3
so approximately the value will be : 7 + 2(3) = 13

Re: GMATprep PS question
2^x - 2^(x-2) can be written as :mlane25269 wrote:Hi! Need some help on this problem! Thanks!
=> 2^x - 2^x/ 2^2
=> 2^x(1-1/4) = 2^x (3/4) = 3* (2^x/2^2) = 3 (2^(x-2))
Hence,
3 (2^(x-2)) = 3(2^13)
or, (2^(x-2)) =(2^13)
or, x-2 = 13
hence, x =15

Re: GMATprep problem
Hi! How do I solve? Thanks! Car uses 1 gallon per 30 miles. Hence 1/3 gallon for 10 miles. So total gasoline usage for 50 miles - 5/3 gallons Since the travel time is 50 miles per hour. Hence, per hour gasoline consumption = 5/3 gallons. So 5 hr gasoline consumption = 5 *(5/3) = 25/3 gallons. Fract...
