Thanks Ian! Are there any MGMAT tutors that want to chime in? (I think I also found another error in the book; For the MGMAT tutors, is there an email address or link where I can send in potential typos? MGMAT Problem (Advanced Quant)

#4-9

If a does not equal to zero, is 1/a > a/(b^4 +3)?

(1) a^2=b^2

(2) a^2=b^4

Thanks!

Spoiler:
The correct answer is A, but I think the answer should be E. Based on statement 1, a and b can have the same numbers but with different signs. Therefore, I think E should be the solution.

When I first read this question, I thought of "style" in the fashion sense. lol. GMAT could have made my life a lot easier on this question by substituting "type" for "style."

Sorry to restart an old thread, but I am still a little stuck on Mitch's explanation for choice A. A) ...the early writing was probably....but was more likely to begin ...and only later merged. Not parallel Shouldn't the first "was" be parallel with the second "was"? (As in "...

I think I got it now. The separator method is an ingenious way to calculate this problem. For more information check out:

Thank you Geva and Whit! Those are some very helpful advice! I think I was confused between "distinct" and "general" sequential probability. If I were to come up with another problem, such as "Given we have four variables, a,b,c,d, what is the probability of choosing a &...
