IMO E -

'Judeo-Christian thought and figures' should modify images. Hence A, B and C are out.

D - 'images borrowing from ancient classicism, suggests' - lacks clear referrent. who is borrowing the images?

that leaves us with 'E'.

Losing the modifiers at the start and end, this sentence is constructed in the following manner:

Phyllis Wheatley's bending of A, B, and C suggests her range and depth of influences.

In this case, the correct AC should end with suggests to agree with bending (singular), which is the subject. So I think only B and D are left.

The problem is that the list A, B, and C is incomplete.
A=solar imagery
B=Judeo-Christian thought and figures (a two item list on its own, creating a list within a list)
C must be (1) a noun that is not gerund (v+ing) because it's something she bends, (2) preceded by and, as it's the last item.

Which leads me to think it's D and to boldly ask gauravgundal  - are you sure the word and is underlined in the question?

IMO - B

suggests is the right choice ... Hence, B vs D

to me .. B is parallel too ... bending, borrowing

My first answer is "none of the above", which isn't an official answer. If this question has been correctly typed (which I strongly doubt), then it's one of the worst written "official" questions I've ever seen.

My guess for the correct answer is (D), with the following 2 changes:

first, the word "bending" in the sentence should be "blending"; and

second, answer (D) likely read:
and images borrowed from ancient classicism, suggests
The basic sentence structure is:

"Phyllis's blending of A, B and C suggests X."

(The subject is "blending", which is why we use the singular verb "suggests".)

The answer can't be B. Wheatly's borrowing could possibly suggest something, but this changes the intended meaning of the sentence; the initial sentence presents the fact that the images borrowed from ancient classicisms.
Have you wondered how you could have found such a treasure? -T
