Like Rousseau, Tolstoi rebelled against the unnatural complexity of human relations in modern society.

A. Like Rousseau, Tolstoi rebelled
B. Like Rousseau, Tolstoi's rebellion was
C. As Rousseau, Tolstoi rebelled
D. As did Rousseau, Tolstoi's rebellion was
E. Tolstoi's rebellion, as Rousseau's, was

OA is A

I chose D but is that incorrect because it changed the meaning of the sentence?

A. Like Rousseau, Tolstoi rebelled - Clear n Concise
B. Like Rousseau, Tolstoi's rebellion was - Incorrect - compares Rousseau with rebellion
C. As Rousseau, Tolstoi rebelled - Incorrect - no clause after 'as'
D. As did Rousseau, Tolstoi's rebellion was - Awkward - rebellion is compared to what rousseau did.
E. Tolstoi's rebellion, as Rousseau's, was - Awkward - 'rousseau's' implies rousseau's rebellion which is wrong

OA is A

Hi guys,
Really need to understand this ..... What is wrong with E ? Is it only because of "as" since like is used to compare nouns. ? Because we are actually comparing the two rebellions. That both the rebellions were similar. And it looks right ... What is the problem with that meaning ?
