Rotman vs Schulich

by okletsdothis » Fri Dec 30, 2011 11:46 am
I am not a canadian so there is only limited information that can be gained from reading brochures and speaking to university reps.

Can anyone please shed light on which MBA program is better for marketing. I am only worried about two things:
1. Quality of the MBA experience
2. Job prospects later

I have read a lot of different opinions but they rather confuse me.

Please help.

sorry but I'm not familiar with either of these schools :-/ maybe you can reach out to the marketing club presidents at each school?
My goal is to make MBA applicants take onus over their process.

I can't tell you "which is better" but I can tell you where to look! The thing to think about is what is important for you. Salary? ROI? Prestige? Employment statistics? I don't believe there is a "Better" program objectively here, yet depending on your needs, there might be one that is more suited to what you seek and one less.
So start with those statistics (you can find many things on the school website of in Businessweek's MBA profiles)

If you are asking because you have been admitted to both, I would say: Don't decide until you VISIT.

Hi Jon ,
While I agree that Salary,ROI,Prestige,Employment statistics are important parameters, its difficult to decide between 2 top schools that are more or less evenly pitted against each other . Both schulich and rotman enjoy good rankings on FT/BW .Both of them are located in or around Greater Toronto. So How to decide which one to apply to.

Like Jon said, if you're hard pressed to make a decision between two schools, go pay them a campus visit! It can do wonders to your decision-making. I know it helped me. I would even go so far as to say that if you're an international student, it might be a good idea to take a week off and fly into Canada for it. The reason why I chose Ivey over other top schools in the US is in part because I felt the campus visit at Ivey was a much more positive experience for me. At the end of the day, only you can tell which one is a better fit for you and likewise for which you are a better fit.

Firstly, a very happy new year to all!!

Thank you Jon for replying to my query. Unfortunately I am in India and I cannot make that trip to Canada to visit the schools.

I understand that some things may attract you to a school more than others and you should definitely visit them. Let me rephrase, in your opinion, which aspects of either school are really good and what are the faults or shortcomings that you think should be know to a student planning to enter these schools.

I am asking you because you have a lot of experience in the field and even after interaction with students i have noticed that they simply do not reveal the complete picture.

Hmmm. Well, I'm not sure you are gonna like my advice but: Visit anyways!
Yes India is far and yes you don;t have the time or money. But c'mon! You are gonna spend TWO years and Lord knows how much money and this could define the rest of your life. I know people who didn't visit and made their choice on some small perception of advantage of prestige and then discovered that the school wasn't for them.

The schools are, as another user stated pretty head to head, and when it's like that, you need a photo finish.
