Q. If the reporter would have known the landlord’s side of the story, she would not have written an article so favorable to the 81-year-old tenant.
(A) would have known the landlord’s side of the story, she would not have written
(B) would of known the landlord’s side of the story, she would not of written
(C) had known the landlord’s side of the story, she would not have written
(D) had known the landlord’s side of the story, she would not have wrote
(E) knew the landlord’s side of the story, she would not have written

The OA is
(C).
What's wrong with
(E)?
Thanks,
Rohit.

(C) had known the landlord’s side of the story, she would not have written
(E) knew the landlord’s side of the story, she would not have written

The OA is (C). What's wrong with (E)?

There are only 3 rules that you need to remember by heart.
Present- If X happens, Y happens.
Past- If X happened, Y would happen.
Past perfect-If X had happened, Y would have happened.

Therefore, the answer is C, not E. E is mixed rule and it does not stand.

hope this helps.
