R1 vs. R2 and How Long Can We Wait

by olso4052 » Wed Apr 10, 2013 5:49 am
Hey There,

I've been doing a lot of research, and think I have narrowed down the list of schools I want to apply to. I was planning on doing them all for R1, but it might be a little too heavy of a load.

My question is, how long can you wait one a school offers you admission? For example, let's say my fourth choice school offers me admission in R1, but I just submitted an application to my top school in R2, and want to wait and hear the result.

Is it possible to simply just wait a couple extra months to accept or decline admission from a school? Will there be any drawbacks, such as non-refundable deposits?

As a little extra info, I will not be doing any R3 applications - just R1 and R2. I'm interested to hear how this process works, and see how I should split up my R1 and R2 applications.

Hey,
Well do as many as you can R2. You are right that there is no guarantee that you will get all the answers back in time that you can make the "perfect decision". Worst comes to worst you will have to lose the deposit in order to wait for a result from a preferred school, but it's always worth it to take that chance.
