by indiangirl27 » Mon Jul 08, 2013 12:15 pm
Hi

Here is my profile. Hope you'll be able to evaluate it.

- 27 year Indian female, Engineer
- 760 on the GMAT (49 Quant, 44 Verbal, awaiting IR and AWA results went quite well though)

- Electronics Engineer from a top university (not IIT) Top 3 in class throughout (class of 90)

- Worked as a Consulting engineer for a fortune 500 american tech company (5 years) primarily based out of India but worked on long consulting assignments in 5 different countries across 4 continents

- Working with the ILO in south east Asia for now (about 6 months at the time of application one year or more by the time I have to join). Some interesting small business and developmental learning program,

Always academically good, first rank in school and college. Top ratings at work, youngest in team at work to have been awarded all the onsite consulting engagements.

- LBS, INSEAD, Harvard, MIT, Tuck, Duke

Hi,

KUDOS on remarkable GMAT!!
You have good profile and would stand a chance in your shortlisted b-schools. You just need to focus on application essays and showcase leadership examples, awards/achievements in or outside workplace & other skills in them. You should also have clarity on post-MBA goals and how an MBA from XYZ b-school will help you to to achieve them. These are important questions while facing the adcoms during the final interviews. You may try your chances in b-school(s) by clicking https://goo.gl/onTKu

To get some more clarity on b-school application process and inputs from top b-school grads, kindly attend the webinar conducted by b-school alumnus. For more information and to register your name, click https://tinyurl.com/orhuqum

Let me know in case of further queries. You may PM your details for profile evaluation in length.

Regards
Erina

Hey there,

Wow - amazing GMAT! That will definitely get some attention!

The short answer is your profile from an academic and professional standpoint looks strong and diverse. I feel there are definitely components in there that would not only convey key themes but do so in an interesting and compelling way. Your international exposure in particular is a differentiator.

One thing that you haven't really mentioned is your extracurriculars and that will be a big deal. If you could shed some more light on what you've been up to both in your undergrad and outside of work, that would be great!

Another question for you is what are you looking to target an MBA for? What are your short and long term goals? I ask because you've definitely listed some great programs but they're very different from one another in regards to career prospects, teaching styles, and community/culture?

I look forward to learning more about you! That will definitely help me provide answers that will be useful for you.

What??? ONLY a 760? Couldn't get an 800? ;)

What a fantastic job! I am totally impressed.

That, plus being female will help you out a lot (I'm not kidding!)

Buuut from what you have written here, it's not too clear where your profile would fit. You are definitely excellent enough to get into top 25. But there is a big difference between top 25 and top 15 and top 10 and top 5 (I mean in terms of candidate profile), regardless of your superb and most excellent GMAT. For example, the fact that in HBS the majority of Indian students come from IIT...

For me, I'd love to elaborate further, but I feel like I need more info! I certainly don't know enough about your work experience, and then the other things (volunteer work, community service, extra curriculars, entrepreneurial experience, family background) are not clear to me either.

It's a wee bit hard for me to tell you exactly where you can get into because I am missing information from you. Can you write me back with the following info:

1. Exactly what your position is, how your performance is, whether you have any leadership experience, how many promotions you have had, what extra curricular experience you have, what volunteer work you have
2. Can you elaborate on what your goals are - what are your short and long term goals? Why do you want to go to business school?

If you can give us some more info, I can help you better.

Looking forward to hearing from you, my friend.

Per what others have said, knowing more about you would be helpful. That said, you are competitive for those schools. Your academics and GMAT scores are strong and you have had considerable diverse international experience outside of India which will differentiate you from other Indian applicants.

Good luck,
