Could you please give me your candid reponse wrt my profile.

My profile is as follows:

Indian Male (NON IT/ Engineering Back ground) Phew.. :D
Age: 25
Qualification: Bachelors in Business management from Bangalore, India (Graduated in 2009)
CGPA-3.45 (a let down? )
GMAT-700(Q48V38)
Target Schools : INSEAD, LBS, Columbia and Wharton
Work Ex: 4 years

I Hail from a business based family. The business pertains to Importing and trading of office furniture. Today, I am a part of my family run business as a director.
However, Soon after my graduation i incorporated my own firm which is into trading of Hardware. It has been 4 years since it was incorporated. The latest annual revenue turn around was about usd 600,000. The Family Business has a turn around of about usd 4.5 million pa and has 100 employees(skilled and unskilled).
My role in a nut shell is running, administrating, building strategies to grow both the businesses, sourcing materials and basic financial management of the firms (in terms of sourcing and investing).
I have also completed 2 levels of cfa.

I was looking at the 2014 fall admit.

In tandem with my profile, do you think my prospects of getting into the above stated target schools are any good? Do you find any specific issues in my profile that can be worked upon (or not).?
does my being an Indian hamper my chances of being selected? could you shed some light on this?
Is there anything else you'd like to know?

Your time is much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi!

Thanks for sharing your profile. Being Indian in and of itself certainly does not hamper your chances -- that really only applies for people in overrepresented applicant pools (e.g., Indian Male IT professionals).

Your scores are average+. I wouldn't worry about this side of the equation... of course, having a 730+ would increase your chances, but I don't think it's necessary.

Your professional experience in the family business is strong, but it is your individual entrepreneurial success that really sets you apart. I would lean heavily on this experience in your application.

Here's what's missing: extracurricular and community leadership. I would think your entrepreneurial experience could help make up for that, but it's still a weakness to be aware of.

I think your schools are reasonable targets (INSEAD, LBS) /reaches (Columbia, Wharton), but I would suggest adding a safety school to the list that is slightly less competitive than these. Perhaps something like UCLA.

Good luck!
Mili
