Parents P and Q

by dumb.doofus » Tue May 26, 2009 7:48 pm
Parent P: Children will need computer skills to deal with tomorrow’s world. Computers should be introduced in kindergarten, and computer languages should be required in high school.
Parent Q: That would be pointless. Technology advances so rapidly that the computers used by today’s high schools would become obsolete by the time these children are adults.

Which one of the following, if true, is the strongest logical counter parent P can make to parent Q’s objection?

(A) When technology is advancing rapidly, regular training is necessary to keep one’s skills at a level proficient enough to deal with the society in which one lives.
(B) Throughout history people have adapted to change, and there is no reason to believe that today’s children are not equally capable of adapting to technology as it advances.
(C) In the process of learning to language, children increase their ability to interact with computer technology.
(D) Automotive technology is continually advancing too, but that does not result in one’s having to relearn to drive cars as the new advances are incorporated into new automobiles.
(E) Once people have graduated from high school, they have less time to learn about computers and technology than they had during their schooling years.

Parent Q = no need for early computer training in school because technology becomes outdated soon.

Parent P's counter premise to the arguement.

B--most appropriate choice. Clearly states that childer are capable of evolving and adapting to technological change, which logically is a lot easier than learning something new.

A--doesn't clearly state if children will be able to adapt and evolve.

C--irrelevant

D--irrelevant

E--irrelevant

IMO D

I know it's a wacky answer...but wht i infer, the assumption that parent Q is making is the since the technology is advancing, the basics also change and thus it is pointless to have computer education since the start...

D brings in a new information stating that tho the technology advances, the basics remain the same and hence strengthening P's point of view.

It should be D.

By stating D Parent P would give a relevant example to counter Q.

Whats the OA

I'm surprised. IMO B is the most appropriate choice. Choice C doesn't make any sense. What does the OE state? Is this question out of CR 1000?

It would make sense that D is the right answer... between B/D, which answer is better?
Have you wondered how you could have found such a treasure? -T

answer is C
a,b,e are out
between D and C, D gives an example of relearning. we are looking for something improving with time. C is most appropriate that in the process of learning, the ability to interact with technolody increses.

Choice C is correct because:

Parent P thinks that computers are a must for a child's future and they should be taught at school level.

Parent Q thinks that it is pointless to teach computers to children as the technology changes rapidly...

Going by Parent Q's approach, children will have no knowledge of computers...but what if the learning process gives them the ability to learn future technology much quicker.

I am not an expert but.. If I was that parent I would say that advanced languages will have present languages as base for their development, so children shall be strong at the base or initial languages.

Example: Java is developed after/based on C++.. so C++ shall be thought initially

C is good.. we need a continous improvement
First take: 640 (50M, 27V) - RC needs 300% improvement
Second take: coming soon..
