Hi there,

I know this question has been asked many times and it all comes down between the need for an internship (in the case of a career change) versus going back into the job market with as little lag as possible. My specific case is that I am doing a change from ad agency to brand management. My question would be: does this call for a two-year program (and thus the internship component)? Intuitively I think yes as advertising is only a small part of the overall marketing mix. However, I wanted to validate whether this is the case and whether I would get as much out of a one-year program, AND be as marketable. Any advise and insights are appreciated as I have been accepted into two great programs (a one-year, and a two-year) and this would help me make that final decision.

Well, since there also aren't many one year MBA's in the US, if your targeting US schools your one year choices will be severely limited. Anyhow, there IS certainly some logic to you doing the two year, not only for the entrepreneurship, but also to give yourself the time to learn what you need to learn, and set up your move.

That having been said, schools like INSEAD which offer one year programs successfully place many career transitioners.
